Services: Frequently Asked Questions

What sort of service can I expect if I walk through your doors on a Sunday morning?

Our main service is at 10am on a Sunday morning. On most weeks, this is a  service of Holy Communion with a robed choir and music led by the organ. We sing a mixture of old and new hymns.

Our children have their own classes but join the whole congregation to receive a blessing or communion at the end of the service and we all end together.  We use a modern language service at this service.

I have always loved the old Prayer Book. Don’t you use that at all?

Our 8am Communion service uses the Book of Common Prayer which is the traditional language service.  In addition, all our services of Evensong and our once monthly Matins use the Book of Common Prayer.

That all sounds very formal and traditional - I’m not sure my children will cope with all that.  Don’t you have any more relaxed services?

Children are of course welcome at all our services, and we do have children’s groups for the main part of the service at 10am.  However, on the first Sunday of the month at 10am, we have a Family Service which is much more informal in its style and many more of our young families come to that.

Often our baptisms take place at this service and there is a great sense of joy and informality there.

I would enjoy that, but my children all play sport on a Sunday morning. What are you doing for them?

Once a month, we also have Messy Church at 4pm on the 3rd Sunday of the month.  This is especially designed for families such as you. Crafts, stories, songs, and just as importantly food!  It’s all there in Messy Church – go to their website at www.messychurch.org.uk to find out more details of what it is all about.
