Children and Families

Whatever age your child is, you will find a welcome at St Mary’s. Whether your first steps into church are to ask about booking a christening for a baby, or you have adolescents looking for friends to hang out with, we have activities that will suit – whether that is here at St Mary’s, or in partnership with our sister churches at St Michael’s and St Thomas’, or even with all the other churches in town in activities such as the summer Lighthouse Holiday Club.

All ages are welcome to our Sunday services each week, particularly to our main service at 10am, where we there is a creche area in church for those under three, and weekly activities for older children in the Fitzwilliams Centre.  Once a month, on the first Sunday we all meet together for the Family Service at 10am where children and families take part in many aspects of the service. Our Family Services restart on Sunday 5 September 2021 at 10am. You can find out more details here

During the week there are many other activities for children, with a weekly term-time toddler group on a Wednesday afternoon at 1.30-3pm in The Fitzwilliams Centre (restarting on 8 September 2021).

As the children get older, as well as having their own activities, we encourage them to take part in the life of the church through acting as servers and crucifer in church, as well as reading the lesson and helping with technology and sound.

Every summer, all the churches in town come together for Lighthouse at The Beaconsfield School.  Over 400 children of primary age attend each day for a week of the holidays for fun, craft, songs and games. There are also over 100 teenagers who help each day and many adults too.

To find out how you can join in with all that is going on, contact the church office or phone the church office on 01494 676690.
