(1) Smith Tomb     Total cost (excluding VAT):  £9,585.00. Descendant gave their permission to repair the Smith tomb and this is the condition it was in before it was restored in November 2009.

Smith family tombMs Naomi Johnson, the daughter of the late Mrs Edna Johnson, kindly gave her permission to go ahead with the repairs to the tomb.  Some expansion had taken place in the past due to old repairs.  Generally all the surfaces of the tomb were weathered to a point where the original crispness of detail had softened.  The majority of the inscriptions were legible.  Dense ivy had covered the compound floor and parts of the tomb.  The compound had fallen into disrepair with the flagstones being uneven and loose due to the collapsed ground conditions.  The limestone kerbstones had also been disturbed due to the partial collapse of the brick walling foundation beneath.  The railings that were set into sockets of the kerbstones have not been renewed.

(2) Memorials inside the church:  Total cost (excluding VAT):  £5,827

The images of the two Rumsey Family limestone wall monuments reveal before and after their recent conservation.  These tablets were set on a damp wall and were suffering from serious surface deterioration due to the action of the migrating salts.  The legibility of the inscriptions and the stability of the tablets through the rusting of ferrous fixings were seriously at risk but have been restored and damp-proof material has been inserted into the wall behind the memorials.

(3) Turrell Tomb:   Total cost (excluding VAT):  £6,645.00.

Turrel Family Tomb Are you a descendant of the Revd Henry Joseph Turrell (1826 – 1898)?  If so, we need your permission to repair his tomb which is situated on the north side of the churchyard of St Mary and All Saints Church, Beaconsfield.  It is a Grade II* listed monument that needs repair after standing for over 100 years. Before the tomb can be repaired we need to find the descendants of the Revd Turrell to obtain their permission.  We will not be asking them to fund the repairs as the money will be raised through grant-making trusts but we just need their authority to say 'Go ahead'.
